VPS for Forex: MetaTrader and trading advisors
A trading terminal needs to run when the market runs — not when your home happens to have power and internet. That is why traders move MetaTrader onto a virtual server.
The terminal runs without you
Expert Advisors and scripts place trades on their own, but only while the terminal is running. On a home computer that means never switching the machine off, never rebooting it, never losing connectivity and never being caught by a power cut.
On a server the terminal runs around the clock. The Kyiv data centre draws on two independent feeds from separate substations, with UPS and diesel generators behind them, so neither a blackout nor a dropped home connection affects your advisor. You connect when you want to check or adjust something; the rest of the time it simply keeps going.
A stable link to your broker
The server has its own static IP address and a 1 Gbps port. The connection to your broker's server does not depend on mobile signal quality or a congested home Wi-Fi.
If latency to a particular broker data centre is critical to your strategy, bear in mind our servers are in Kyiv. For brokers with European venues that is typically tens of milliseconds; for high-frequency strategies sensitive to single-digit milliseconds, a venue physically next to your broker makes more sense.
Several terminals at once
One server can host several MetaTrader copies with different accounts and different advisors. Memory is the only real constraint: an idle MT4 terminal takes roughly 150–300 MB, MT5 noticeably more, and an advisor doing heavy computation or holding deep quote history adds to that.
Which plan to choose
SD-Solo is genuinely fine for one or two terminals without heavy computation — unlike browser work, MetaTrader is undemanding.
SD-Duo suits three to five terminals, or advisors that compute actively.
SD-Trinity and above if you run many terminals, keep an analytics browser open alongside, or use MT5 with deep history.
Which Windows version to choose
MetaTrader runs on all available versions — Windows Server 2019, 2022 and 2025. If your broker ships its own terminal build or extra utilities, check their requirements. With no particular preference, take 2022.
